Derek Manuel guarantees his program, "How to Gain Weight and Build Muscle For Hardgainers," will put 20-30 lbs. of muscle on any skinny hardgainer in just 8 weeks. That's pretty strong and a little bit too bold in my opinion. Some will certainly have those kind of results when following solid hardgainer strategy but many more will progress a bit slower through no fault of their own.

Manuel does present solid hardgainer strategy. He has trainers doing full-body workouts 3 times a week centered around 20-rep squat sets. He does a decent job of explaining what he wants you to do but could do a better job with the exercise descriptions (pics would help).

The diet information is good but a little lacking in depth. About 25 sample meals are provided but I'm not sure the average beginner gets all he needs to feel comfortable putting together his own diet. Diet is where trainers typically struggle and trying to follow a specific schedule tends to be a recipe for failure - it is better to give them the tools to put together their own diet based on individual preferences in my opinion.

Manuel also takes readers through some motivational techniques. A section on the power of the mind is fairly interesting. His last section, "How to Construct Your Own Workout Programs," is a brief look at some of the principles to training for various goals (strength, fat loss, mass gain, endurance).

The ebook keeps its focus on presenting a quick look at basic concepts. While keeping the focus on the basics is a good thing, I think a little more depth and a lot more emphasis on things like the quantity of eating and intensity of training would be beneficial.

The ebook is well-written. Manuel comes off as sincere. He presents an interesting look at how he came to the plan that worked for him and the one he is recommending. You get the impression that he is well-read on the subject but lacking in experience beyond his own.

Bonuses of value are personal training by email and some printable workout sheets.

Conclusion: A respectable effort. While far from the worst on the market, it isn't really challenging the top programs.
