A Review of
Shawn Lebrun's
Simple Steps To Get
Huge and Shredded
|
Having already reviewed another of Shawn Lebrun's bodybuilding ebooks, I wasn't expecting much when it came time to review Simple Steps To Get Huge and Shredded. I got what I expected. Like in 7 Things You Must Do To Gain Weight, what you get is a disorganized ebook that leaves you a bit confused.
One thing I found odd about this ebook is it never really gets around to telling anyone how to "get huge." Instead, it works on the assumption that you are coming to it overweight. That isn't necessarily how I would read the marketing and sales page. I would instead expect to get a complete look at both the bulking and cutting phases of bodybuilding training.
So, for the average reader of this site, the guy looking more to gain muscle than anything else, this ebook isn't for you. It reminds me of the frustration skinny people always get in seeking information on gaining weight and finding that the bulk of the fitness industry works on the assumption that everyone needs to lose weight. That's ok, but at least tell me to look elsewhere before I buy, don't advertise something you aren't even going to attempt to deliver.
As a bodybuilding fat loss book, I also found this program lacking. The dieting information is okay but not exceptional. The cardio information is weak. The supplements section is weak (dated). The weight training information is okay.
There is some good quality info in there. His information on warming up and 'acclimation' sets is interesting stuff. His chapter on plateaus is also well-done. But the good points of this ebook tend to get lost in the disorganization. The organization is based on giving you a 12 week training plan one week at a time and then some tips/info through 12 chapters. It didn't work for me.
Of note is that the copyright is 2002 on my version which I bought in mid 2007. In his introduction, Lebrun notes that the principles to effective physique building aren't going to change. While I'd agree with that point, the specifics will. This ebook is dated and in need of an update. Beyond that, certainly Lebrun has gotten some input on his product over the years that will allow him to improve it? An ebook isn't exactly difficult to update and keep updated.
The worthwhile bonuses are a month's email training and entry into a drawing for supplements. The rest are marketing books and... where Lebrun's marketing gets irritating is when he puts dollar values on bonuses that turn out to be links to free online resources. This practice used to be more rampant in the bodybuilding ebook industry but most have abandoned it. I'd like to know how Lebrun came up with the value of $69.90 he puts on links to Bodybuilding.com?
If that's accurate, whoever is reading this should send me a check for $69.
Conclusion: Lebrun has something to say but seems more interested in marketing rather than producing quality products. I wouldn't recommend his stuff.
