USA Weight Gain Tip

I was always thin. Not bone skinny but pretty thin. I joined a gym and started working out to try and add some muscle. I got a free consultation with a personal trainer when I joined and he gave me a basic program to do. I actually lost a couple of pounds on it. I started reading stuff on how to gain weight and i figured out that most of the stuff I was doing wasnt going to help me. I have now gained back the 2 pounds i lost and put on 8 more (2 1/2 months). That personal trainer came up to me and said "you are looking great" I wanted to say "yeah, no thanks to you."

Tips

Just read about what it takes to gain weight. Alot is nutrition. It says it somewhere on this site that if you aren't eating enough to gain weight, it doesn't really matter what you are lifting (or something like that). Take that to heart. Also, you have to really push yourself when you lift and you have to be consistant. Those are the big things. Good Luck.

I started lifting weights in January of 2005.  It is now December 1, 2005.  I started out at a weight of 165 pounds, and i am now 203 pounds.  That is nearly 40 pounds of muscle gain in 11 months!  My dad is a stout guy, and he told me that he filled out after high school.  I never thought that i could be a big guy, because i was very skinny.  I am now very, very filled out.  I am still gaining muscle by the day.  My next goal is 220 pounds.  I realize now that that goal is far closer than i could have ever imagined.  I feel that i will reach that goal within a few months.  With the workouts that i do, and with how my mind is focused on bodybuilding right now, i see no problem in reaching that goal.

Earlier in my weightlifting, i would hit barriers such as 178, 185, and 192.  The 192 pound barrier is when i really changed my workout, to one of ever increasing weight and reps, and heavy workouts.  I seriously packed on 11 pounds in about a month and a half.  I pushed everything beyond what i had ever done before.  I would stop on the dumbell press after i reached 85 pounds on each side.  I now push 105s up 4 times on my last set.  Anyone who does dumbbell presses knows that it is much harder than regular benching, because of the balancing act that you do, and the additional muscles that you work.  My bench shot up from 225 max to 260 within a couple of months.  My leg press jumped up to 800 pounds.  Shoulder presses up to 70s.

Pull ups shot up along with everything else.  Trust me, it is hard to do a pull up when you weight 200 pounds, let alone 3 different pullup exercises, 3 set of each.

My dad has been lifting with me until recently, when i had to change to a different gym because of school scheduling.  My dad dropped from 260 down to 210 (he was 200 while in the navy).  As he dropped fat while gaining muscle, i just packed on the muscle.  I can't believe that i am about to pass him in weight.  I would have never thought it possible.  I now call him "little man" and tell him that i will get him a blown up portrait of me flexing, just to give him a hard time.

I can tell you that your hard work will pay off.  My ultimate goal is to get big enough in a few years that i can cut down, and compete in a posing (or whatever)contest here in Utah.  Do not go to the gym for the sole reason of picking up girls.  Do not talk on your cell phone while in the gym!  Don't waste your time like the people who go to the gym for years and never gain an ounce.  Trust me, there are many people who do the same crap every day, and never gain.

Tips

Increase your weight or amount of reps EVERY time that you do your workout.  Whether it is 5 pounds or one rep more than your last workout.  For example:  on the bench, i am up to 260 as a max, one time.  Now i try 265 as a max.  I may not get it up for two weeks, but when i do, i know it is because of that hard work that i put in, just to try to get that up one time.  Do dumbell presses.  To me, they are the most important chest workout that you can do.  DO LEGS HARD.  Out of all the workouts that i do, Legs are my number one priority.  I am 20, and i can tell you that 90 percent of the people my age (as well as most other people) don't do legs.  legs will fill out your body more than you could imagine.  I've seen some goofy looking people, where their upper body is very wide, and it looks like a funnel as you move down to their feet.  They get thinner as you go down.  The number one supplement i would recommend ,other than protein and multi-vitamins, is NO-XPLODE.  Try this once and you will fall in love.

PULL UPS!!!  Do them!

Ed. Notes: Great advice throughout.

What prompted me? Well, is was in a bar one night and some girl gets mad at hey boyfriend and she sspeeds out and she nearly knocked me over. The bar erupted in laughter at me getting knocked back cause to make matters worse she was real small. My goals were to get a little bigger so lttle girls can't knock me down. I bought a bunch of stuff that was supposed to make you bigger at GNc but none of it helped me. mY friend told me to just lift heavy and eat everything i saw that was good advice. I got 22 pounds bigger and now I got some guns (small guns but getting bigger) I now beat up little girls (joking)

Tips

Best advice? Eat everything and lift hard. This site has good stuff on it i am thinking that I may be able to do better taking a more scientiffic design to what i do. I do take weight gainer 4000, but half they say to take and it helps or it makes me sick. I probably need to loose my gut

Ed. Notes: Classic story, made me laugh. More information on weight gainers.

I wanted to gain weight to improve my confidence and self-esteem. 4 months ago I was 5'8" and 129 lbs. Now I am 5'8" and 142 lbs. and a lot stronger. I have a long way to go before I meet my goals but I am now sure that it is possible.

Before I would try and eat a lot and I would lift weights for a little bit but I never knew what I was doing so I would quit after a week or so (this happened 3 times). When I learned that I needed to be consistent and needed to keep doing things for awhile to gain, I started to gain. After one month I had already gained 6 lbs.

Tips

Just be consistent and give your program some time to work. Remember that you have to eat a lot every day, not just on some days. I use Myoplex to help me do this. I also use flaxseed oil to help me get my calories up.

Ed. Notes: More Information on Flaxseed Oils (EFA Oils) and on Myoplex (MRPs). Both these supplements are recommended in the Bodybuilding Supplement Guide.

I was the skinniest guy in my high-school. I was 5'11" and only 152 pounds. After graduating I decided to do something about it. I came across this site and put together a program.

I spent the summer working out 3 times a week. I did all the workouts in my basement. When I started I could only bench about 100 pounds but by the end of the summer I was benching 145 pounds.

I now weigh 168 lbs and I am still gaining.

Tips

Don't think that you need all the fancy equipment. All I had was a little bench that was probably meant for 12 year olds. I just improvised for exercises that I couldn't do.

Diet is also important. I couldn't afford any supplements but I just made sure that I never left anything uneaten. Before I was the type who would not usually eat all of a meal. Now I always clean my plate. I drank a lot of milk, probably a gallon a day.

Just decide to do it and then work hard.
